otter
linocut.
8x10. I love this little guy and I love that he was published in a literary review last year. Otters are my favorite animal of all times, especially since a group of them is called a "romp." [Below, you can see that my very fist rubber cut was of an otter.] This linocut was a tricky little guy, to say the least. Because of the density of otters' fur, there's deep dark color that is often only offset by small slicks of water. It's a challenge to convey that texture without making him look "splotchy." And, if you're ever bored, checkout the sea otter live cam through the Monterey Bay Aquarium, especially around breakfast time [1.30EST]; it rarely disappoints. |
