linocut. 9x12. This is a simple piece, but it might be of interest to anyone who cares about ancient runes, divination, the random esoteric new age business. This is the elder futhark, which was used in early, proto-Norse writing. Notice how there are no curves to speak of, which would make this alphabet capable of more easily being carved into stone. In the image I've made, the traditional three lines of runes have been broken into six. Close-up photos are of the fehu [cattle], algiz [elk-sedge], and laguz [water] runes. |
