woodpecker
linocut. 8x10. available for purchase here. This darling little guy was inspired by the downy woodpeckers that lived behind our house several years ago. It was always so exciting to hear them doing their business and then search to spot them. Here at our new house we've even had one brave his way to the birdfeeder. It's always a bonus when you get to see them hanging upside down. Here's a brief excerpt about this species from the Cornell Lab of Ornithology: “The active little Downy Woodpecker is a familiar sight at backyard feeders and in parks and woodlots, where it joins flocks of chickadees and nuthatches, barely outsizing them. An often acrobatic forager, this black-and-white woodpecker is at home on tiny branches or balancing on slender plant galls, sycamore seed balls, and suet feeders.” It just happens that the bird was the perfect size to adorn a prayer candle, as well! You can check out the etsy shop to get your hands on either the print or the candle! |
